Modern Medicine's Debt to the Civil War

Approximately 620,000 soldiers died in the Civil War. Two-thirds of those deaths were not the result of enemy fire...but of disease. The Union blockades of Confederate sources of the conventional medicines resulted in reliance on traditional botanical healing practices. By the end of the "War Between the States", American medicine was forever changed. Learn about this fascinating story and the plants and women that played a major role.
